Coping With Different Shifts As A Nurse

without comments

The number of shifts and their schedules such as the number of hours worked by an employee per week varies greatly from one hospital to another. However, most nurses work on a part-time basis usually 32 or lesser hours on a weekly basis. There are a few nurses who work full time while others work over the weekend alone. Those who work over the weekends alone take a 12hr shift every weekend.

Since the daily responsibilities of a nurse in one specialty field are totally different from those of another specialty, nurses are allowed to switch between different specialties. This way, a nurse is able to choose a nursing environment that goes in line with their temperament and personality.

Nurses frequently hold a change-of-shift meeting in which a report is presented to nursing staff members when a shift changes. The report normally contains all the information regarding the patients and it is exchanged between the different nurses taking care of each patient.

A shift is normally very stressful and physically demanding. You will find that at the end of a shift, a nurse is not capable of doing anything else due to the effects of workloads. This is when rest and relaxation comes in!
