Non-clinical Settings In Nursing

without comments

Not all nurses work in clinical settings like hospitals, nursing homes and clinics. Some prefer to opt for other environments that let them practice their specialty but without the hectic atmosphere of clinical settings. Below are a few examples.
Medical consulting: As a consultant, a nurse will consult with medical practitioners, law firms and insurance companies on various medical issues.

Clinical research: Nurses working as clinical research associates ensure that clinical trials don’t compromise the health of patients and that the trials proceed smoothly according to procedures. They may work with pharmaceutical companies, academic medical centers and government agencies.

Travel nursing: In travel nursing, nurses have to provide care to patients while on the go. Hours are flexible, accommodation is provided and insurance is covered. Most travel nurses get assignments through placement agencies.
Technical writing: Many nurses offer their expertise in the form of writing for medical transcription centers, health organizations and clinical research centers. They may freelance or work as regular employees. This setting provides an opportunity to not only impart knowledge in related fields but also to hone writing skills.

Legal consulting: As a legal nurse consultant, nurses will assist with criminal and medical liability cases by providing analyses on forensics and acting as expert witnesses.
