The main duty of a nurse is to ensure that the well being of a patient under their care is taken care of at all times. A nurse spends considerable amount of time with a patient as opposed to a doctor who only treats the patient and spends a short amount of time with him. Nursing falls under various categories where each has specific job roles assigned to them.
Nursing aides are concerned with serving meals, cleaning, dressing patients and setting up equipment. Since nursing aides are not licensed, they cannot administer medications. Licensed practical nurses carry out essential health maintenance job in a hospital. They work directly with patients under the direct supervision of a registered nurse.

Registered nurses are tasked with creating charts with patient’s medical history, sickness, symptoms, and up to date or past changes. This professional also carries out tests and lays down treatment. This is the individual who gives patients information on treatments and oversees their proper medication. This nurse also offers support to the patient’s family.

Nurse supervisors have a higher salary grade than both registered nurses and nursing aides. These individuals make reports to physicians, arrange schedules and ensure that there is adequate supply of medications. The task of training new staff also falls under the jurisdiction of a nurse supervisor.
