Why Be a Nurse? Part Seven
You also need to have the right balance of sympathy and distance to be successful in registered nurse jobs. This means being able to provide a good bedside manner that makes people in your care feel safe and secure – but at the same time being able to distance yourself from what’s happening and not be too traumatized and upset by what you encounter. If you show your visible distress then you will only further upset the patients and leave them feeling stressed and upset too. Of course you need to be able to keep a strong head around blood and this is another important matter for nursing jobs.
You will also need to be highly organized and confident in your ability to remember details and organize data. Mistakes here could potentially be fatal for a patient so this is something that is of utmost importance. However, if these traits do not describe you at the current time then do not worry – over time you will find you are more likely to develop these kinds of skills, and over time you will find that you are able to gain many of the abilities you need through training and experience – and the way nursing jobs in Canada develop you into a more well rounded individual are nearly unparallelled in any other career.
